Vanguard Water Polo Club is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation meaning that our particular non-profit organization has been approved by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, charitable organization. "Charitable" is broadly defined as being established for various purposes such as religion or education, and Vanguard qualifies for this non-profit status because it is fostering a national amateur sport. One of the primary benefits of being a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation is the ability to accept contributions and donations that are tax-deductible to the donor.
Our goal at Vanguard is to fundraise approximately $25,000 per year. We have constant expenses that need to be covered. During the High School season we take a significant loss, almost over 50% of our registration fees, because those HS athletes are competing for their high schools, and not the club. The operating expenses are still incurred during that Fall session so we need to make up the difference through fundraising.
The basic breakdown of our expenses is as follows:
Coaching and tournament pay: 50%
Pool Time: 20%
Tournament fees: 15-20%
Other expense include equipment, advertising, payroll and office expenses, extra insurance etc.
We have several opportunities throughout the year where club participants can make contributions. At any time, you are welcome to make a tax-deductible monetary contribution.
CLUB GEAR SALES: We have a continual fundraiser throughout the year with our Vanguard gear store with a vendor who will let us keep some of the profit generated in the store. We open up the store 4-5 times a year and can raise money to cover coaches gear and additional money.
AMAZON SMILE: If you are a frequent shopper on Amazon, you can use Amazon Smile and they will give back .5% to our non-profit.
I encourage you to ask questions and please give your input on any fundraising ideas. Any donation of your time or money is invaluable in keeping our club as competitive and successful as it can be. Thank you for the opportunity to give your child a most memorable water polo experience.
